Providence Bests Springfield in 12th Meeting of Season
February 14, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
PROVIDENCE, RI- The Providence Bruins extended their point streak to 16 games in a row after a 3-2 victory over the Springfield Falcons. This was the 12th meeting between these two teams this season.
Colby Cave gave Providence the early lead. Justin Hickman battled for the puck in the corner and sent the puck across the net where Cave was able to pull the puck off of Langhamer's pads and roof a shot.
The power play unit looked sharp in the first, with Alexander Khokhlachev connecting with Austin Czarnik and Frank Vatrano to put the P-Bruins up 2-0.
The second period was all about the goaltending, with both keepers coming up big throughout the middle frame. While McIntyre shone in net, Providence had two uncharacteristically unproductive power plays and the score stood at 2-1.
Brian Ferlin scored his first of the season after missing 4 months with concussion symptoms. Colton Hargrove threaded the needle on a 2v2 to Ferlin who deked around Langhamer and put Providence up 3-1.
Springfield fought back and scored with under a minute to play, but it wasn't enough to catch the streaking P-Bruins who clinched the 3-2 win.
The P-Bruins are back home February 26th against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
