Bridgeport Islanders News Release

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers earned a point for the ninth straight game, but their eight-game winning streak was snapped with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Albany Devils on Sunday afternoon at Times Union Center.

Brian O'Neill scored with 48.4 seconds remaining and Reece Scarlett scored 1:56 into overtime to give the Devils the victory.

The Sound Tigers took the lead with just over two minutes remaining in the first period. Mike Halmo forced the turnover in the offensive zone and got the puck to Alan Quine. Quine found a wide-open James Wright in front of the net and Wright roofed a backhander to make it 1-0. With his assist on the goal, Quine made it nine straight games with a point.

The Devils outshot the Sound Tigers 13-10 in the first period, but Christopher Gibson was solid in net for Bridgeport to keep Albany off the board. He had to be especially sharp after the goal, stopping Albany's leading scorer Mike Sislo and Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond in tight to keep the game at 1-0.

Bridgeport increased its lead to two midway through the second period. After Taylor Beck came out of the penalty box, he grabbed the puck and skated in on a 2-on-1 with Ben Holmstrom. Beck sauced a pass over to Holmstrom who fired a shot past Yann Danis to make it 2-0. The Sound Tigers took that lead into the third period despite being outshot 23-17 through 40 minutes.

Albany took over in the third period, aided by what was nearly a full two-minute 5-on-3. With Beck and Kevin Czuczman in the box and Bracken Kearns without a stick, Mike Sislo blasted home his league-leading 14th power play goal of the season to get Albany on the board.

The Devils kept firing shots on net, pulling Danis with under two minutes to go in the game. Albany scored with the extra attacker when O'Neill stuffed home a loose puck past Gibson to tie the game up at 2-2. Max Novak and Brandon Burlon got the helpers on the goal.

Then Scarlett ended the game in the extra frame. After some back-and-forth action during the 3-on-3, Sislo skated in 2-on-1 with Scarlett and fed him a perfect pass. Scarlett double clutched before beating Gibson to give the Devils the victory.

The Sound Tigers went 0-for-6 on the power play, including a double-minor that went by the wayside. Albany went 1-for-7 on the power play, scoring on their two-man advantage.

The Sound Tigers get Monday off, but head to Springfield on Tuesday, February 16 to face the Falcons. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
