Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Nashua, NH -- Nashua righty Hideki Nagasaka, pitching on Japan Night in Nashua, tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout as the Pride completed the sweep of the Tornadoes, 5-0, in the mini two-game series at Holman Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Pride would get all the runs they would need in the 2nd inning, sending 8 men to the plate and using 4 singles off righty Ryan Mitchell (2-2) and 3 Omar Pena errors at shortstop to score 4 early runs and take the 4-0 lead. Nashua would get one more in the 6th, as righty Alex Beras, making his Tornadoes debut, served up a solo home run to Tommy Rojas, the first batter he faced in a Worcester uniform.

But the night really belonged to Nagasaka (8-1). "Little Hideki" was dominant, allowing just 4 singles and 2 walks while striking out 8 in handing the Tornadoes their fifth shutout defeat of the season. Worcester had just one man reach third base and two reach second base in the game.

Nagasaka (8-1) was the winner and Ryan Mitchell (2-2) pitched well but took the loss. The Tornadoes were outscored 13-1 and outhit 20-10 in the two-game series. Worcester has now scored fewer than 4 runs in 9 of their last 11 games and fall to a season-low 6 games below .500 (35-41) on the season. The Tornadoes are 2-25 when scoring fewer than 4 runs in a game and have been outscored 51-4 in the 1st & 2nd innings of their last 18 games. Worcester has Wednesday off and will try to recompose themselves for the stretch run beginning with the first of a four-game series at home against Quebec on Thursday night. Righty Alex Pena will get the start for the Tornadoes and he will be opposed by Capitales righty Keith Dunn. First pitch is set for 7:05pm.
