Pickrel, Robinson Take Home The Weekly Hardware

DURHAM, NC - The official statistician of the Can-Am League, PA-Sportsticker, has selected New Haven County Cutters OF Jeremy Pickrel and North Shore Spirit RHP Dennis Robinson as Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for August 6th - August 12th.

In six games, Pickrel hit .389 (7-for-18) with two home runs, six RBI and six runs scored. He collected three doubles, stole three bases and had a 1.000 slugging percentage. This past Wednesday in a 9-5 win over the Grays, the Galesburg, IL resident went 3-for-4, a home run short of hitting for the cycle, with two runs scored, a RBI and a stolen base. For the season, Pickrel is hitting .311 with nine home runs, 44 RBI and seven triples. The 24-year-old is first in the Can-Am in triples, tied for third in extra base hits (34), fourth in slugging percentage (.555) and tied for fourth in on-base percentage (.426).

Pickrel was a 10th round selection of the Minnesota Twins in the 2004 MLB draft. He played three seasons in the Minnesota farm system before coming to New Haven County in 2007.

Robinson is the fifth different North Shore player to be a recipient of the Player of the Week award this season. In his only start this past Friday in a 1-0 win over the Sussex Skyhawks, Robinson hurled a complete game shutout allowing only four hits with five strikeouts. In 26 games played, the 25-year-old is 4-3 with a 2.97 ERA and one save. He has 25 strikeouts in 69 2/3 innings pitched.

The Putnam Valley, NY resident was signed by the Baltimore Orioles in August of 2004. He played in Aberdeen and Delmarva in 2004 and 2005. Last season with North Shore, Robinson went 5-4 with a 2.28 ERA in 59 1/3 innings pitched.
