Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (August 14, 2007) - C Lee Rubin hit his first professional homer, a three-run shot in the fifth inning, but the North Shore Spirit rallied in front of 2,934 at Campanelli Staduium to defeat the Brockton Rox 6-5 for the second straight night. The Rox are now seven games behind the Spirit and seven games out of the Can-Am League's final wild card position with 19 games left in 2007. LF Jerod Edmondson had a 3-4 night for the Rox and drove in two, while 3B Melvin Falu had two hits including a double for Brockton in the loss. RHP Matt Bishop won the game on the hill for the Spirit with seven strong innings, while SS Jerson Perez led the way offensively with three hits.

LHP Bryan Morse started for the Rox against the team he played with for parts of five seasons. He allowed two runs in the second inning on a two-run single by Spirit 1B Josue Lopez. With the Rox trailing 2-0 in the fifth, they finally got to RHP Matt Bishop. Bishop allowed just one hit through four innings, but CF Matt Maloney singled to lead off the fifth, extending his hitting streak to seven games. Falu followed with a single, the first of his two hits, and newcomer SS Jorge Mejia sacrificed both runners over. Edmondson singled up the middle to put the Rox on the fifth-inning runs tally, and moments later Rubin ripped a three-run shot over the left-center field wall, putting the Rox up 4-2.

North Shore took little time to respond. 3B Luis Lopez doubled home a run off Morse in the sixth, and Morse departed with two runners on base. RHP Jon Koch came into the game with the Rox leading 4-3, and induced a popup off the bat of DH Allen Mottram. The popup was well- placed, as it fell between three Rox fielders down the left-field line for a double, tying the game at four.

The Spirit scored two in the seventh off Koch to take the lead, and the Rox managed little until the ninth. Trailing 6-4, the Rox rallied. Falu hit a one-out double to left center and scored one batter later when Edmondson singled up the middle, driving home his second run of the game. With a runner at first and two outs, North Shore called upon RHP Julio Soriano out of the bullpen, who fanned Rubin for the final out of the game.

North Shore has won the season-series between the two teams with a seven games to five advantage heading into Wednesday's season-series finale at Fraser Field. LHP Rolando Viera (8-5, 2.68 ERA) faces Spirit RHP Dennis Robinson (4-3, 2.97 ERA) at 7:05 PM.
