Sussex Skyhawks News Release
The Skyhawks had four pitchers combine to hold off the Jackals as they strand 13 and hold the Jackals to 7 hits. Sussex picked up their first run of the ballgame in the bottom of the second. Following a triple by Chris Crescenzi, Scott Grimes brought him home with an RBI single.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Skyhawks offense exploded taking a 4-2 lead after scoring three runs. Grimes collected his second RBI single of the evening, followed by a two-RBI single by Jared Lemieux later on in the inning. That would be all the scoring Sussex needed to take down their intra-state rivals.
Jamie Merchant earned the win for the Skyhawks in relief. He lasted four innings while yielding just one run on three hits. He walked four and struck out five. Ryan Pacyna took the loss for his second consecutive start. In 5.2 innings pitched, he gave up four earned runs on eight hits. Edisbel Benitez earned his first save of the season with a flawless ninth.
The Skyhawks are home tomorrow, as they look to sweep the series against the New Jersey Jackals. Game time is 7:05pm.
