(NASHUA, NH, August 13, 2007) Japanese native Hideki Nagasaka was brilliant on Tuesday night as he shutout the Worcester Tornadoes, 5-0, before 1,271 fans on Japan Night at Historic Holman Stadium. The Pride' top winner at 8-1, Nagasaka allowed just four hits in the ballgame, all singles. He walked a pair and struck out eight.
The Pride jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning against Worcester starter and loser Ryan Mitchell. Nashua had four hits in the inning and took advantage of three errors by Tornadoes shortstop Omar Pena. The big blow in the four-run fourth was a two-run single by Pride third baseman Jermy Acey. Bryan Duplissie was also credited with an RBI in the uprising.
Designated Hitter Tommy Rojas completed the Nashua scoring in the sixth inning with a leadoff home run off Worcester reliever Alex Beras who was making his debut with the Tornadoes.
Pride shortstop, the leading hitter in the Can-Am League, was two-for-four on the night. He's now batting .373.
For Nagasaka it was his first shutout of the season and second complete game.
The Pride are off on Wednesday and return to action at home on Thursday evening at 7:05 when they open a four-game series with the New Jersey Jackals. Nashua is scheduled to open the series with righthander Akira Okamoto (6-2, 2.90) on the mound.
While the Pride are off on Wednesday, Historic Holman Stadium will be hosting the 2nd Stars and Bars charity softball game starting at 6 PM. Tickets for the charity event are $7 and include two hot dogs, a beverage and admission to the post game "pub crawl". All proceeds will benefit Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Nashua.
