N. CHARLESTON, SC â The Pee Dee Pride lost their eighth straight game Tuesday night, falling to the South Carolina Stingrays 4-2 at the North Charleston Coliseum.
South Carolina started the scoring just 1:51 into the opening period. Jeremy Stevenson took a long range slap shot from the left-wing side that was stopped by Nick Boucher, but the long rebound came free to Ed Courtenay at the right-wing circle, and his shot eluded Boucher for his 11th goal of the season.
The Pride came back to tie the game at the 7:50 mark. Chad Spurr had the puck in the far corner of the Stingrays' zone and centered a pass for Jake Wiegand at the hash marks. The Pride defenseman was able to wrist a shot past Justin Eddy for his fourth goal of the season, and his third in the last six contests.
The Stingrays went back on top 3:25 into the second period. South Carolina had pressure in the Pride end, and the puck settled on the stick of Carlyle Lewis who shot the puck off of the near post and into the net for his sixth goal of the season.
It stayed 2-1 until the 3:09 mark of the third period when the Pride tied it again. Spurr had the puck at the left point and feathered a perfect pass to Allan Sirois stationed at the near post. Sirois softly touched the puck, and it rolled past Eddy for his 15th goal of the season.
But, South Carolina came back and went back on top at 10:35. Courtenay sent a pass to Trevor G. Johnson in the high slot, and Johnson one timed a shot past Boucher for his second goal of the season.
The Pride pulled Boucher for an extra attacker, but were never able to get any pressure, and the Stingrays' Robin Gomez scored into the empty net with 1:15 left to set the final.
