The Firebirds opened up their five game home-stand in grand fashion with an impressive 7-1 victory over the Guelph Storm Wednesday night. Ten Firebirds hit the scoresheet in the game that featured a season-high seven goals led by Max Kislinger and Ethan Keppen, who scored two goals each. Maurizio Colella had a goal and an assist while Nick Caamano and Nicholas Mattinen contributed single tallies. Ryan Moore had three assists, Ty Dellandrea had a pair of helpers while Hunter Holmes, Zack Pilon and Jake Durham added single assists each.

A season ago, Flint posted a 1-0-0-1 record against Mississauga. All-time, the Firebirds are 2-1-0-1 against the Steelheads and are 1-1 in Flint, Mich. Three of the four games between the two teams have been decided by one goal. This is the only time Mississauga will play in Flint during the regular season.

On special teams, the Firebirds' power-play is 11th out of 20 OHL teams, clicking at 17.9% while the penalty-kill is 13th, operating at 80.6%. Mississauga is fifth in the OHL on the man-advantage at 23.1% and 19th on the penalty-kill at 74.2%.

Between both Flint and Mississauga, there are nine players with NHL ties currently on the two club's active rosters, consisting of Firebirds' Nick Caamano (Dallas Stars), Fedor Gordeev (Toronto Maple Leafs), Nicholas Mattinen (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Kole Sherwood (Columbus Blue Jackets) in addition to Mississauga's Nathan Bastian (New Jersey Devils), Nicholas Hague (Vegas Golden Knights), Michael McLeod (New Jersey Devils), Jacob Moverare (Los Angeles Kings) and Owen Tippett (Florida Panthers).

Columbus Blue Jackets reassign Sherwood to Flint: The Columbus Blue Jackets announced Thursday, Oct. 12, that they have reassigned forward Kole Sherwood from the AHL's Cleveland Monsters to the Flint Firebirds. The New Albany, Ohio native was the second leading scorer for the Firebirds last season with 85 points (33G, 52A) in 60 games. He added four goals and one assist in five playoff games for the Firebirds. Sherwood returns to the OHL and the Firebirds for his overage season. Click here to watch video feature

Players to Watch

Flint Firebirds (4-2-1-0, 6th Western Conference):

Ryan Moore had three assists in the Firebirds' 7-1 victory against the Guelph Storm Wednesday night and is now tied for the team-lead in points with 9 points (1G, 8A) with Maurizio Colella. The Troy, Mich. native has gone the distance for the Firebirds, appearing in 68 games in each of the past two seasons. Moore led the Firebirds in scoring last year with 90 points that included career highs in goals with 39 and assists with 51.

Max Kislinger had a pair of goals against the Storm Wednesday night, recording his first multi-point game with the Firebirds. Kislinger was the North Bay Battalion's first-round (43rd overall) in the 2015 CHL Import Draft. Kislinger has scored three goals and five points in seven games this season with the Firebirds.

The Firebirds first-round (10th overall) choice in the 2017 OHL Priority Draft, Ethan Keppen, is off to a good start with three goals in seven games after scoring twice in the win over Guelph. Keppen is also a plus-2 this season.

Rookie defenseman Zack Pilon registered his first career point with an assist against the Storm Wednesday night. Pilon was a fourth round (67th overall) selection for the Firebirds in the 2017 OHL Priority Draft. Pilon has appeared in three games this season and is a plus-2.

Firebirds goaltender Garrett Forrest was selected as the third star Wednesday night in his game against the Guelph Storm. Forrest has back-stopped the Firebirds to four wins this season after stopping all but one of the 25 shots he faced. Forrest is 11th among all OHL goaltenders with a 2.88 goals against average (GAA) and a .917 save percentage (SAV%).

NHL: The Firebirds have four players that have been drafted by NHL teams consisting of Nick Caamano (Dallas Stars), Fedor Gordeev (Toronto Maple Leafs), Nicholas Mattinen (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Kole Sherwood (Columbus Blue Jackets). Additionally, Dennis Busby, Ty Dellandrea, Hunter Holmes, Ryan Littlejohn and Jack Wismer are five first time eligible players to be selected in the NHL Entry Draft in June 2018.

Mississauga Steelheads (1-5-0-0, 10th Eastern Conference):

Mississauga comes to Flint after falling in Sarnia 8-1 Friday night. The Steelheads are missing two main players out of their lineup, Michael McLeod, who made the NHL's New Jersey Devils roster, suffered an injury this week and is now out of action and Owen Tippett, who is still up with the NHL's Florida Panthers. Albert Michnac, who was selected in the first round (37th overall) in the 2017 CHL Import Draft, leads the Steelheads in scoring with 8 points (3G, 5A). Michnac is from Prague, Czech Republic and is currently riding a three-game point-streak (2G, 4A). Trent Fox is tied for second place with six points (2G, 4A).

Between-the-pipes, Jacob Ingham has played in four games for the Steelheads and has a 5.01 GAA along with a .842 SAV%. Emanuel Vella has played one less game than Ingham and holds a 3.29 GAA and a .892 SAV%.

The Mississauga Steelheads have five players drafted by NHL teams which include Nathan Bastian (New Jersey Devils), Nicholas Hague (Vegas Golden Knights), Michael McLeod (New Jersey Devils), Jacob Moverare (Los Angeles Kings) and Owen Tippett (Florida Panthers).
