Ottawa 67's News Release

THE RECAP OTTAWA - Ottawa Fury FC closed out their inaugural USL campaign Saturday night in Pittsbrugh posting their league record 14th draw of the season as the score ended 1-1 against the Riverhounds. Nick DePuy's first-half tally was erased by a Corey Hertzog penalty kick with 13 minutes remaining as the Ottawa and Pittsburgh shared the points to close out their respective seasons - Fury FC finished 10th in the USL Eastern Conference standings with a record of 8W-14D-10L.

Fury FC once again got off to a bright start. Early pressure led to a free-kick that Carl Haworth whipped into the penalty area finding the feet of DePuy who, on his first touch, sent a shot on goal beating Matt Perrella in the ninth minute for his second goal of the year to send Ottawa in front.

Ottawa would own 55% of the possession in the first half and outshot the Riverhounds 9-3 with most of the opportunities coming from DePuy who, at 6-foot-5, was engaged in battles with Riverhounds defender Joe Greenspan (6-foot-6) all night long. Fury FC would carry the 1-0 lead into the half.

While Pittsburgh produced very little in the way of scoring opportunities in the first half save for an effort from Romeo Parkes, they proved a much more aggressive team in the second 45-minute stanza. Neither side threatened with a sure scoring chance, but there were ample opportunities from sustained pressure from either side to find a goal.

In the 76th minute, the Riverhounds were awarded a penalty kick after Eddie Edward and Kay Banjo got tangled up in the penalty area. Despite the protest from Ottawa, Pittsburgh's leading scorer Corey Hertzog claimed the spot kick beating Callum Irving to level the score 1-1 in the 77th minute.

Ottawa had the better of the chances late in the match, but could not find the long sought-after second goal resulting in their 14th draw of the season.

Fury FC closed out their fourth professional season, and first in the USL, in 10th position recording the second-best finish in club history behind their 2015 campaign. Their 42 goals for this season ties the most-ever in a single season (2015). Steevan Dos Santos finished as the top scorer with 12 goals in all competition while Carl Haworth led the team in assists with 5. Callum Irving became the first goalkeeper Fury FC history (and second player ever) to play in every minute of every game (36 matches and 3240 minutes).

POST-GAME COMMENTS GM and Head Coach, Julian de Guzman: On today's performance ... "We had another strong start. There was great build up that led to us creating the goal on the set piece. Even after the goal, we took charge and played good soccer and I felt that we could have scored two or three more in that first half. Tonight just really sums up our season and the type of luck we had."

On the second half ... "Pittsburgh came out more aggressive in the second half. It was tough losing Obasi to injury and we had to change our system a little. They got a call that didn't look like a penalty to me, but that really summed up our luck this season."

On the 14th tie of the season ... "14 ... WOW! That is a lot of ties when you say it out loud. I think that we have a lot of quality in this team and if that quality comes through every game or more consistently, we're talking about different results. If we can play like we did versus Cincinnati every game for 90 minutes - we'd be unstoppable."

QUICK NOTES * Fury FC set an USL record for the most ties in a season with 14 * Every player in Ottawa's Starting XI tonight (outside of Callum Irving) had scored at least one goal this season. * The 42 goals scored this season ties the club record set during the 2015 season * Callum Irving became the first goalkeeper in club history to play every minute of every game.
