Swift Current Broncos News Release
Swift Current, SK - After a 5-0-0-1 pre-season, the Swift Current Broncos (0-0-0-0) look to carry that momentum into the regular season as they open up their 68-game schedule at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex against the Calgary Hitmen (0-0-0-0) Saturday night at 7:00.
The Broncos capped off an unbeaten-in-regulation pre-season with a 2-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes at home on September 14. Joona Kiviniemi and and Carter Chorney provided the offence, while Isaac Poulter was stellar in net with 37 saves in the win. The lone blemish on the Broncos exhibition schedule was a 3-2 shootout loss at home to the Regina Pats on September 5.
Now in the Central Division, the Broncos will play the Hitmen five times over the course of the 2019-20 season, though it will be nearly four months before they face-off again. Sunday, January 12 Swift Current is in Calgary for a 2:00 game before the Hitmen return to the iPlex three days later. The regular season concludes with a home and home series, beginning Friday March 20 at the iPlex and finishing on Sunday with a 2:00 start in Calgary.
The Hitmen had just four games on their pre-season schedule, posting a 2-2 record. Calgary lost their first two games to Edmonton, 3-1 and 6-2, before rebounding with a 2-1 win over Medicine Hat and finishing with a 6-2 win over Red Deer.
Last season, the Hitmen swept the season series with Swift Current going a perfect 4-0 and outscoring the Broncos by a 24-8 margin. Calgary has been receiving reinforcements over the week from various NHL clubs as Jett Woo (VAN), Carson Focht (VAN) and Egor Zamula (PHI) have been returned to the Hitmen following training camp. Calgary's captain from last year, Mark Kastelic, is still with Ottawa Senators.
