Portland added one more goal to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission and extended their lead to 3-1 early into the second period. 8:34 into the second period while playing four-on-four, Petr Moravec scored on a give-and-go with Marc Lajoie to put the Americans back within one. Tyson Greenway added another second period goal for the Americans to tie the game heading into the final frame. The Americans were unable to carry their momentum into the third period as Portland scored twice more to secure a 5-3 victory.
