
Prab Rai scores second goal of season in 6-1 loss to Portland

Portland, OR - The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-1 Saturday night at Memorial Coliseum in Portland.
Portland outshot Seattle 11-4 in a scoreless first period.
Chris Francis put Portland on the board at 3:11 of the second period when he scored his second goal of the year. Spencer Bennett and Brett Ponich had the assists. The T-Birds tied the game at 17:08 of the second. Jonathan Parker had the puck behind the Portland goal. He centered the puck to Prab Rai in the high slot. Rai cradled the puck and then put a quick snap shot on goal that beat Winterhawks goalie Kurtis Mucha.
The Winterahawks led 22-9 in total shots after outshooting the T-Birds 11-5 in the second period.
Portland went in front 2-1 at 2:59 of the third period on a goal by Colin Reddin. Daniel Johnston and Oliver Gabriel had assists on the goal.
The Winterhawks took a two-goal lead at 7:22 of the third on an unassisted goal by Luke Walker.
Jacob Berglund scored at 13:23 of the third to take a 4- 1 lead. Mucha had the only assist on the goal.
Portland took a 5-1 lead at 14:52 of the third on a goal by Stefan Schneider. Riley Boychuk and Johnston had assists on the goal.
Boychuk scored a four-on-four goal at 17:27 of the third to make it a 6-1 Portland lead. Schneider had the only assist on the goal.
Portland outshot Seattle 35-18 in the game.
Seattle goalie Jacob DeSerres made 29 saves on 35 shots and his record is now 0-2-0-0.
Mucha made 17 saves on 18 shots and his record is now 1-0-0-0.
The T-Birds next game is Friday, October 2, against the Tri-City Americans at ShoWare Center at 7:35 p.m.
T-Birds single game tickets for the 2009-10 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
