Everett Silvertips News Release
Everett, WA - Zack Dailey put home a late third period goal to start the Everett comeback Saturday night ending with a 4-3 victory in a shootout. Dailey's goal at 19:00 of the third took a miraculous deflection that ended up floating over Giants goalie Jamie Tucker's back without the Vancouver goalie seeing the puck. This started Everett's momentum shift leading to Tyler Maxwell and Shane Harper goals in the shootout sealing the home opener win. Thomas Heemskerk took home the second star of the night with a strong 34 save performance including 3 of 4 saves in the shootout. Third star of the night Radko Gudas had a goal and an assist, while Daniel Iwanski rounded out the scoring.
Iwanski opened up the scoring for Everett just 3:36 into the first period. Chris de la Lande sent a wrap around in his own zone that beat a Vancouver defenseman at the Everett blue line. Iwanski sprinted out of his own zone with Zack Dailey trailing behind and used a quick fake to his backhand to beat Giants goaltender Jamie Tucker low. The goal came shorthanded giving the Silvertips the 1-0 lead. Everett added to their lead at 10:26 on the power play. The Silvertips had great control on the man advantage that led to a patient Radko Gudas beating Tucker five-hole on a hard snap shot from the top right circle. The Giants would come charging back at 12:08 after a Thomas Heemskerk diving backdoor save rebounded on top of the crease for J.T. Barnett to put home his fifth of the season moving the score to 2-1.
Vancouver tied the game at 5:15 of the second period after James Henry scored his second goal of the year. Henry collected a bouncing puck in front of the Everett net and beat Heemskerk five-hole on the back hand to tie the score 2-2. Vancouver outshot Everett 12-11 in the second period.
Tyler Maxwell was awarded a penalty shot at 7:37 of the third period after being tripped by Vancouver defenseman David Musil. Maxwell missed after skating down the slot and hitting the left post on a hard wrist shot. Barnett added his second goal of the night at 15:01 on the power play. Barnett collected a loose puck on top of the Everett crease and found the back of the net to give the Giants the 3-2 lead. Everett pulled Heemskerk at 18:48 of the third period and it paid off as Dailey got a deflection off a Vancouver stick that popped up in the air and right over Tucker's back to tie the game. The goal was scored at 19:00 making the score 3-3. That would be the score after 60 minutes of play sending the game into overtime.
There was no score in overtime so for the first time this season the game was sent to a shootout. Shane Harper put home the game winning goal in the shootout to give Everett the 4-3 victory.
