Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB: The Edmonton Oil Kings closed out a 3 game road trip in Prince Albert Saturday looking for their second win and 5 points for the standings. Edmonton opened the contest with 2 goals in the first period. This marks the third game in a row the Oil Kings have held a 2-0 advantage, and they have scored first in all 4 games they have played. Tomas Vincour continued producing when he opened the game with his 3rd goal of the year, and he later assisted on Captain Rhett Rachinski's first goal of the campaign. Torrie Jung, who has started in goal for all 4 Oil Kings games, stopped all 19 shots the Raiders fired at him as the first ended up 2-0.
Prince Albert kept the pressure on in the second getting off another 14 shots on Jung. They managed to beat him once when Ryan Harrison scored his second goal of the year. The Raiders outshot Edmonton 33-17 through the second but trailed 2-1 after 2.
The Oil Kings hang on to the one goal lead until late in the third when an old teammate beats Jung. Craig McCallum scored his first goal as a Raider to tie the game at 2. He was released by the Oil Kings prior to the start of the regular season. Edmonton got the goal back on the next shift when Brent Raedeke scored his 4th goal in as many nights to lead the team to a 3-2 win. Torrie Jung made 44 saves for his second straight victory.
"When you have Torrie Jung in net you have a shot at winning and he kept us in it in the first period," said Oil Kings Head Coach Steve Pleau. "After that, I think we had the better Grade A scoring chances in the hockey game. I think we were the better team in the second and third periods."
The Oil Kings win 2 games in a row in Saskatchewan against Prince Albert and Saskatoon, after a shootout loss in BC against the Kootenay Ice, and wrap up a 3 game road trip with 5 out of a possible 6 points. The team is back in Edmonton for a two game home stand where they will face the Medicine Hat Tigers on Wiener Wednesday on September 30th. The Moose Jaw Warriors are up next on October 2nd on Jersey Friday.
