Hitmen Improve To 3-0 With Shootout Win In Medicine Hat

Medicine Hat, AB - Brandon Kozun had four points (1g 3a) plus the shootout winner as the Calgary Hitmen beat the Tigers 5-4 in Medicine Hat Friday night.

Austin Madaisky, Chase Schaber and Misha Fisenko also scored for the Hitmen who improved their record to 3-0.

After trailing 1-0 early in the first, the Hitmen rallied to build a 4-2 third period lead before the Tigers forced overtime.

Martin Jones made 28 saves and was perfect in the shootout to pick up the win in goal.

Calgary will now enjoy a one day break before hosting the Red Deer Rebels in the Calgary Real Estate News Home Opener on Sunday afternoon. Game time is 2:00 p.m. at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

Festivities begin by marking achievements from the 2008-09 season. Three banners will be raised to the rafters; An Eastern Conference Championship banner, WHL Regular Season Champions banner and Central Division Champions banner.

Co-captain of last years team, Kyle Bortis will also be in attendance for a ceremonial puck drop.

Fans will also have a chance to buy a piece of franchise history as the Hitmen will auction off all white game worn jerseys from the 2008-09 season.

A total of 25 jerseys will be up for bid including St. Louis Blues Prospect and World Junior Gold Medalist Brett Sonne as well as WHL First and Second Team All-Stars Brandon Kozun, Paul Postma, Joel Broda, Martin Jones and Michael Stone.

Proceeds go to the Hitmen Education Fund which supports post secondary study for alumni players.
