Lexington Legends News Release

TUESDAY: Kyle McPherson and Ryan Kelly combined to shutout the Lexington Legends on one hit in a 5-0 West Virginia Power victory. McPherson struck out nine and tossed seven no-hit innings. In the bottom of the seventh, Aaron Baker hit a three-run home run and Jesus Brito added a two-run shot to create more than enough run support. Kelly allowed a base hit to Miguel Arrendell with two outs in the eighth to break up the no-hit bid, and then proceeded to retire the final four batters on strikes.

ZERO-ZILCH-NADA: Tuesday's shutout was the second in as many games by Power pitchers, and their fifth of the season. West Virginia pitchers had not thrown back-to-back shutouts since 2005 when they beat Lakewood 10-0 and 5-0 on June 11 and 12. Josh Wahpepah and Yovanni Gallardo received the wins in those two games during the Power's first year at Appalachian Power Park.

GIDDY-UP: Kyle McPherson is tied for the fourth amongst all minor league pitchers with 39 strikeouts this month. The right-hander has retired totals of six, nine, five, ten, and nine during his five May starts, and is slated to make one more outing on Sunday. McPherson trails only Charles Furbush of Lakewood (51), Terry Doyle of Winston Salem (44), and Dan Hudson of Charlotte in the International League (41), and is tied with Randall Delgado of Myrtle Beach.

POWER V LEGENDS: West Virginia has played Lexington more than any other team dating back to the 2005 season. The Power lead the all-time series 54-49, and trail 25-27 at Appalachian Power Park. West Virginia does, however, have the edge at Applebee's Park in Lexington, winning 29 of 51 games. The 2009 series was split at six wins and six losses.

LEADING BASEBALL: West Virginia has hit into 15 double plays this season, the fewest amount of any team in full-season, affiliated baseball. In the Midwest League, Clinton has hit into 17, while International League lowest total is Norfolk's 20. The lowest tally among National League teams is 18 by the San Diego Padres, while the lowest mark in the American League is 24 by Toronto.

THE SHAKE UP: West Virginia made two roster moves on Monday, including the activation of Phillip Irwin from the disabled list. The right-hander was place on the DL on April 29 with shoulder soreness. Left-handed reliever Mike Williams was also added to the Power's active roster today, giving West Virginia a second lefty on the staff, and first for the bullpen this season. Melkin Laureano was promoted to Bradenton, the second Power pitcher to move up this month, while Adenson Chourio was transferred to the State College roster.

POWER POINTS: West Virginia is 16-0 when scoring five or more runs in a game this year and 6-23 when scoring four or less, including Wednesday walk-off 3-2 win over Delmarva, Thursday's come from behind victory at Lakewood, and Monday's shutout of Lexington... The Power were shutout for the fifth time this season on Sunday, matching their 2009 season-long tally... Monday's game was the shortest nine inning game of the season by two minutes.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh beat Cincinnati 2-1... Indianapolis edged Gwinnett 4-2... Altoona beat Akron 5-3... Bradenton rallied for a 6-2 win over Fort Myers.
