HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads scored early and often against the Delmarva Shorebirds en route to an 8-5 win before 888 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Wednesday night. The Crawdads gained a game in their Northern Division lead, pushing it to three games over both the Hagerstown Suns and Lakewood BlueClaws.

SS Leury Garcia manufactured the Crawdads (29-18) first run of the game with his legs. After leading off the first with an infield single against Shorebirds starter RHP Bobby Bundy (0-2, 4.37 ERA), Garcia proceeded to steal second and third and come in to score on a wild pitch for an early 1-0 lead. Garcia leads the league with 26 swipes and has only been caught twice.

Hickory tacked on another run with a two-out rally in the second. C Zach Zaneski kept the inning alive with a two-out single to center and 1B Ed Koncel followed with his first triple of the season to score Zaneski and make it a 2-0 ballgame.

The 'Dads added two runs apiece in the third, fifth, and seventh innings, including two on a two-out double to left-center by LF Cristian Santana in the third. CF Miguel Velazquez riled up Delmarva (20-27) in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs in the inning, Shorebirds reliever Tony Butler uncorked a wild pitch to Zaneski and Velazquez scored, sliding though and toppling the 6' 7" Butler who was covering the plate.

The Shorebirds scored two in the fourth against Crawdads starter RHP Joe Wieland (4-2, 3.16 ERA). Wieland allowed just those two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out three in six innings on the mound to pick up his fourth straight win.

Delmarva made things interesting in the top of the ninth, scoring three runs (two earned) against reliever RHP Braden Tullis, but fell short, 8-5. Bundy took the loss for the Shorebirds.
