
Power winning streak stops at three

LAKEWOOD, NJ (JUNE 5, 2005) â The West Virginia Power extended their winning streak to three games on Sunday, but had it snapped in the second half of the doubleheader at First Energy Park in Lakewood, New Jersey. The Power won the first game by the final of 2-1 and lost game two 17-4.
In game one the BlueClaws took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Mike Dzurilla's RBI single. The Power tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning when Nestor Corredor reached on an errant throw from Lakewood shortstop Brad Harman that brought in Josh Murray. The Power took the lead during the very next at bat when Hasan Rasheed drove in Agustin Septimo on a Sac Fly RBI. The game ended when Doug Gredvig grounded into a game ending 6-4-3 double play.
The Power scored the first two runs of the second game on Adam Mannon's two run single in the top of the second inning. The BlueClaws tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the inning on a pair of two out RBI singles, one from Timi Moni and the other from Brad Harman. The BlueClaws pulled away, scoring six runs in the bottom of the third. Mike Lombardi, Timi Moni, Ryan Frith and Brad Harman hit two out, RBI singles consecutively and Mike Dzurilla finished the scoring in the third inning on a two run double to make it an 8-2 Lakewood lead. The BlueClaws put the finishing touches on the Power in the bottom of the fifth inning when they hit three homeruns and scored nine times. Timi Moni hit a Grand Slam, Ryan Frith hit a solo shot and a two run homer, Greg Isaacson knocked in a run on an RBI single and Mike Lombardi walked with the bases loaded in the inning. The Power scored the final two runs of the game on Adam Mannon's two run homer in the top of the sixth inning. The homerun was his second of the season.
In game one Dave Johnson (2-1) earned the victory, Ben Stanczyk earned his second save and Nate Johnson (4-2) obtained the loss. In game two Joe Bisenius (2-2) earned the victory and Robbie Wooley (1-4) obtained the loss. The Power move to 19-38 with the split and the BlueClaws move to 19-38 with the split.
The Power will conclude the four game series against Lakewood on Monday evening at First Energy Park. Right-handed pitcher Josh Wahpepah (2-3, 3.81) will throw for the Power and the BlueClaws will counter with left-handed pitcher Derek Griffith (2-2, 2.85). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
