Lake County Captains News Release

(Eastlake, OH)--Rich Zieglar and his family spent Sunday morning doing some yard work at their Eastlake home. They made a decision to let some of the chores wait until later and take in the Captains game at Classic Park. Little did the family know what would happen when they walked through the turnstiles.

Zieglar was met by a host of team officials, photographers, and TV cameramen as he entered the ballpark as the 1,000,000th fan.

The Captains entered the day needing 3,190 fans to reach the One Million-mark. Zieglar entered the park at 1:40 p.m. Captains General Manager Graham Hearns and Director of Ticket Sales Kevin Brodzinski carefully monitored the turnstiles after the gates opened at 1:00 p.m., keeping tabs on the attendance figures.

Zieglar attended the game with his wife, Kim, and their children, Andrew (11), and Jacob (9).

Zieglar admitted during an interview on WELW AM 1330 that he had forgotten about the team's "One in a Million" promotion.

"I heard about it a couple weeks ago," he said. "But to be honest I forgot about it, and didn't realize it was happening today."

Zieglar, an Eastlake native, was escorted to the field where he threw out the ceremonial first pitch. He was presented with a special Captains jersey and will have the use of four season tickets for the remainder of the 2005 season.
