Lake County Captains News Release

(Eastlake, OH)--April is quickly becoming a distant memory for Captains lefty Reid Santos.

Santos, who started the season 0-3 with an ERA over 9.00 in his first five starts, worked seven strong innings Sunday, leading the Captains to a 7-3 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds at Classic Park.

The Captains (32-25) won for the third straight game, and improved to 20-9 at Classic Park this season. The Captains pulled to within 3 1/2 games of first place in the SAL North, pending the outcome of the Hagerstown/Lexington game on Sunday evening.

Santos (2-3) scattered six hits over seven innings, his longest outing of the season. He held the Shorebirds (25-32) to one run over the first six innings before giving up a two-run homer to Jason Fransz in the seventh. Santos walked one and struck out four.

The Captains jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Delmarva starter Radhames Liz (1-1). Brian Finegan and Brian Barton had singles, and scored on Chad Longworth's two-out double.

The Captains made it 4-1 in the second on a double by Marshall Szabo, a single by Chris Gimenez, an RBI sacrifice fly by Juan Valdes, and an error on Delmarva shortstop Francisco Guerrero.

Longworth belted a solo homer leading off the third inning to make it 5-1, his second homer of the season.

The Captains closed the scoring in the sixth on RBI singles by Argenis Reyes and Barton. Barton went 3-4 in the game, and has 11 hits in his last four games.

The Captains will go for the four-game series sweep of the Shorebirds (25-32) on Monday night at 7:05 (WELW AM 1330).
