BlueClaws set new records in DH split

Lakewood, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws (18-37) and the West Virginia Power (18-37), Single-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, split a double-header at FirstEnergy Park on Sunday, with the Power taking game one 2-1 and the BlueClaws coming back in game two 17-4.

In game two the BlueClaws scored a franchise high 17 runs to win 17-4 over the Power. Lakewood fell behind 2-0 in the top of the second, but came back and tied it up in the bottom half of the second. Timi Moni and Brad Harman both had RBI base hits in the second inning.

Lakewood's offense then exploded for six runs in the third and nine runs in the fifth for a 17-2 lead. Mike Dzurilla capped off the scoring in the fifth with a two-run double as Lakewood batted all they way around in the inning.

In the fifth inning Moni led off the inning with a base hit then scored on a two-run homer from Ryan Frith. Lakewood again batted around in the inning and with the bases loaded Moni connected for a grand-slam to put the BlueClaws up 16-2. The very next batter, Frith connected for his second homer of the game and second homer in the inning to increase the lead to 17-2.

Moni finished game two 4-for-4 with six RBI's and four runs scored. Six RBI's also establishes a new BlueClaws individual record. Ryan Frith went 4-for-5 with four RBI's and three runs scored while Brad Harman went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and a run scored. Dzurilla and Mike Lombardi each chipped in with two RBI's.

Joe Bisenius (W, 2-2) pitched the complete game allowing four runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out two.

In game one the Power rallied for two runs in the sixth inning off reliever Nate Johnson (L, 4-2) for a 2-1 win over the BlueClaws. With one out in the inning Josh Murray singled and moved up to third on Agustin Septimo's double and the Power had runners at second and third with one out.

Nester Corredor then reached on a throwing error by Brad Harman allowing a run to score and the Power tied it up 1-1. With runners at the corners manager P.J. Forbes went to the bullpen and the lefty Kyle Allen. The very next batter Hasan Rasheed connected for an RBI sacrifice fly scoring Septimo from third.

Lakewood took a 1-0 lead in the first when Dzurilla connected for an RBI base hit scoring Frith from third. The BlueClaws starter Carlos Carrasco got the no decision allowing no runs on five hits while walking two and striking out three over five innings worth of work.

The BlueClaws and the Power wrap up their series on Monday night with the BlueClaws sending left-hander Derek Griffith (2-2, 2.85) to the mound. The Power will counter with right-hander Josh Wahpepah (2-4, 3.81). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. with on-air time at 6:50 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.

This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against the New York Mets affiliate.
