RiverDogs Hold Off Braves

Rome, GA – Saturday at State Mutual Stadium in front of 5,105 fans the Rome Braves lost 4-3 to the Charleston RiverDogs in a nail biter.

The RiverDogs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Tim Battle led off the inning and was hit by a pitch. He then stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch, and later scored on a fielder's choice double play. In the third Estee Harris led the inning off with a walk. Grant Plumley singled moving Harris to second who then advanced to third on a double play, and later scored on a Mario Holmann single giving the RiverDogs a 2-0 lead. The RiverDogs added two more runs in the fifth when Yosvany Almorio scored on a wild pitch and Grant Plumley drove in another, extending their lead 4-0.

The Braves scored two in the seventh when Van Pope led off with a single and then scored on a Clint Sammons double. Sammons then moved to third on a Cole Armstrong groundout and later scored on a Keith Eichas single closing the gap 4-2. In the ninth the Braves made it interesting scoring a single run but left the tying run at third as JC Holt lined out to first to end the game. The RiverDogs take game two of the series 4-3.

The winning pitcher was Charleston's Eric Hacker (2-1) and Rome's Charlie Morton (1-5) received the loss. Mike Martinez picked up his league leading 18th save.
