
Andrew Dobies promoted to Wilmington

The Boston Red Sox announced on Sunday that pitcher Andrew Dobies has been promoted to High-A Wilmington.
Dobies becomes the fifth Bomber to be promoted this season.
The University of Virginia product was selected in the third round of the 2004 Major League Baseball draft by the Boston Red Sox. The left-hander went 5-3 with Greenville in 10 starts, posted an ERA of 3.59 and struck out 54 batters to go against 12 walks.
Replacing Dobies in the Bombers' starting rotation will be Jarrett Gardner. The 24-year old right-hander was 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA for Wilmington this season. The former University of Arkansas star was named to the South Atlantic League all-star team last season while pitching for Augusta. Gardner went 13-5 last season for the GreenJackets, striking out 92 while only allowing 11 walks.
In other transactions, starting pitcher Scott Shoemaker was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Wednesday.
The Bombers take on the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. at Greenville Municipal Stadium. The Bombers offer the "Kids Eat Free" promotion, all children 12 & under will receive a voucher for a hot dog, soda and chips with the purchase of a general admission ticket.
