Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

(Charleston, WV) - The West Virginia Power fell to the Delmarva Shorebirds on Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park, 11-4. The Shorebirds grabbed the early advantage with a five-run third inning that West Virginia could not overcome.

The Shorebirds got things started in the third behind a three-run blast from Mike Yastrzemski. Another run scored on an error and a Chance Sisco RBI base knock gave Delmarva its biggest inning of the season and a five run advantage.

West Virginia would cut into the lead in the fifth with a pair of runs on an RBI groundout from Candon Myles and an infield single that plated Elvis Escobar from JaCoby Jones.

The 'Birds answered immediately with a solo home run by Chance Sisco in the sixth inning that put the game out of reach for West Virginia.

The Power would fight back with a run in the eighth on a Danny Collins RBI single scoring Reese McGuire and a solo blast off the bat of Elvis Escobar in the ninth, but that would be all the scoring for West Virginia. McGuire extended his 10-game hitting streak with a double in the eighth.

Power starter Justin Topa (2-2) was charged with the loss while Jon Keller (2-0) earned the win.

West Virginia hosts the Delmarva Shorebirds on Sunday, May 18, at Appalachian Power Park. Dovydas Neverauskas will toe the rubber for the Power against the Shorebirds Hunter Harvey. For tickets or more information, call 304-344-2287 or visit www.wvpower.com.
