Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats had opportunity after opportunity Saturday night but could not turn them into runs in a 3-1 loss to the Charleston RiverDogs in front of 4,499 fans, the second-largest crowd of 2014 at Historic Grayson Stadium.

The Gnats (28-13) had runners on base in every single inning, but finished 0-for-15 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.

The RiverDogs (22-19) scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first against starter Robert Gsellman, fresh off the disabled list, who was making his first appearance in three weeks. RF Aaron Judge and 3B Miguel Andujar each collected RBI ground-ball singles in the frame. Gsellman settled in during the second and third innings, but the Gnats never got him off the hook in the game.

Charleston added a run in the top of the fifth against reliever John Mincone on a LF Michael O'Neill RBI single.

The Gnats scored their only run in the ninth. CF Champ Stuart began the inning by beating out an infield single with a headlong dive into first. He advanced to second on SS Gavin Cecchini's single into left and scored on LF Stefan Sabol's infield tapper.

Stuart, in his second game as a Gnat, finished 2-for-5 with a stolen base. LJ Mazzilli was 3-for-5 to lift his season average to .250.

The Gnats look to even this four-game series with the Dogs Sunday afternoon when they hand the ball to RHP Chris Flexen (1-4, 6.98) against RHP Luis Severino (1-1, 1.95). Kids 12 and under will enjoy a free hot dog, chips, and soda thanks to Kia Country Kids Eat Free. Fans are also encouraged to bring their dogs along for TailsSpin Bark in the Park. Fans are asked to bring a copy of up-to-date vaccination records along with their dog. Gates to Historic Grayson Stadium open at 1 pm. The radio broadcast on News/Talk 630 WBMQ and sandgnats.com begins at 1:45 pm.
