Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

The West Virginia Power lost 5-1 to the Lakewood BlueClaws on Friday night at Appalachian Power Park. The Power loss snapped their season-best five game winning streak and was their fourth straight loss at home to Lakewood this season.

The BlueClaws jumped on Power starter Quinton Miller early, plating three runs in the first on five singles and a sacrifice fly. Miller settled in over the next four innings, retiring 13 straight before allowing back-to-back doubles in the sixth that generated the fourth Lakewood run.

The 3-0 lead was more than enough for Brody Colvin. Lakewood's starting pitcher surrendered two hits over five innings while walking none and striking out six.

The BlueClaws tacked on their final run against the Power bullpen on a solo home run by Alan Schoenberger in the ninth.

West Virginia broke up the shutout bid in the ninth when David Rubinstein doubled and score on an Aaron Baker base hit.

Miller (2-2) was charged with the loss as Colvin (6-7) picked up the win. Jose Hernandez paced the Power with two of their five hits. Five different players drove in run for Lakewood, which saw a two game losing streak stopped.

These teams will meet on Saturday at 7:05 pm for game two of this five game set. West Virginia is slated to start Jason Erickson against Lakewood's Trevor May at Appalachian Power Park.

POWER RECORD: 50-61
