Home runs by Jimmy Paredes and Jake Goebbert, along with strong middle relief work from Brenden Stines, helped the Lexington Legends take a 9-6 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds Friday night in Salisbury, Maryland.

Each team scored three times in the first inning. The Legends put three more on the board in the second, when Paredes hit a two-run homer, his first as a Legend since being acquired in a trade with the New York Yankees organization. Garabez Rosa's two-run homer in the bottom of the third closed the gap to one at 6-5.

The Legends held a 7-6 lead with two outs in the top of the eighth inning when Goebbert, the current South Atlantic League player of the week, hit his ninth home run of the year. Grant Hogue, who had led off the inning with a single, scored ahead of Goebbert to give the Legends their final 9-6 margin.

Goebbert had three hits and scored four runs for the Legends, and Miguel Arrendell and Jonathan Meyer each had two RBI for Lexington.

Stines, (2-0) who relieved starter Juan Minaya with two outs in the fourth inning, picked up the win. He worked three innings and allowed one run and one hit, a home run by Levi Carolus. Stines walked one and struck out four. Kirk Clark pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 24th save, tying him for the South Atlantic League lead with Alejandro Ramos of Greensboro.

The second game of the five-game series will be played at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
