TWO-FER: West Virginia swept a doubleheader with Delmarva on Thursday, winning game one 4-3 in nine innings and taking game two 5-1. Bengie Gonzalez singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for a walk-off win, with Gabriel Alvarado emerging as the benefactor with the win. In the nightcap, the Power plated four in the bottom of the sixth inning, including a run-scoring double by Rogelio Noris to provide the winning run. Marc Baca was charged with a blown save after allowing a run in the top of the sixth before getting credit for the win.

BROOMS NEEDED: West Virginia completed its first series sweep of the season by capturing both games of Thursday's doubleheader. The Power had not swept a four game series since last August at Lexington, part of a ten game winning streak. The last four-game sweep at home was during May of the 2009 season when West Virginia beat Delmarva in four straight, including both halves of a doubleheader.

AND DUSTPANS: Not only did West Virginia sweep its first series of the season, but they also swept their first doubleheader of the year. The Power had split each doubleheader they played so far, always winning the first and falling in the nightcap. The last time West Virginia swept a doubleheader was 5/17/09 at home against Delmarva.

A SEASON FIRST: Power batters completed their first game of the season without any strikeouts on Tuesday. West Virginia hitters went 15 for 36, walked 5 times, hit three sacrifice flies, and stole three bases in three chances. 10 of the remaining 21 outs were ground balls, while 10 came on fly balls. The first out of the seventh inning was recorded when a Power player tried to advance from first to third on a base hit but was gunned down.

JUST UNDER IN JULY: The Power finished July with a 14-15 record, roughly in the middle of the SAL pack for the month. Charleston and Lakewood held the league's best record at 18-12, while Hagerstown had the lowest winning percentage with a 10-18 mark. West Virginia hit .259 during the month, their best average in any month this season and their 23 home runs were second only to their June totals. The Power staff ERA was 4.67; slightly more than on run higher than May's season best 3.65 earned run average, but still slightly over a full run less than June's 5.65 ERA.

POWER POINTS: Power hitters struck out 17 times on Saturday, setting a new single game high... Saturday's shutout was the sixth by Power pitching this season... West Virginia hitters rank third in the SAL in walks, having combined for 363 this season, three behind league leader Lexington... Jose Hernandez had five hits in seven at bats last night, including his team-best sixth three hits game in the early contest.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh opened a weekend series against Colorado with a 5-1 win. Garrett Jones and Ronnie Cedeno hit home runs for the Buccos... Indianapolis had its game at Durham rained out... Altoona won its fifth straight with a 6-1 win at home against Akron ... Bradenton doubled up Brevard County 6-3. Robbie Grossman drove in a pair... State College walked off with a 3-2 win over Staten Island.

ON THE AIR: All 140 West Virginia Power games can be heard on ESPN Radio 1490 AM in Charleston, WV, across the state on the Power Radio Network, and online at milb.com. Adam Marco will call the action for each of the 70 home games this season, while the home team will provide coverage while the Power are on the road.
