Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - Carlos Martinez's ninth-inning, RBI double to right field was the difference maker in a 2-1 Asheville Tourists victory over the Augusta GreenJackets on Friday night.

The deciding hit - one of four hits in the inning off Jose Casilla (3-1) - came after a leadoff double in the frame from Orlando Sandoval, who scored the go-ahead run on Martinez's double. Right fielder Daniel Cook dove for the tailing, sinking liner but he just couldn't hang on as Asheville took their first lead of the game in the ninth inning.

The Jackets got a leadoff single in the ninth from Juan Martinez, but Evan Crawford struck out after the single and Ryan Cavan bounced into a game-ending double play.

After a 90-minute rain delay at the outset, the GreenJackets stuck first. Luke Anders led off the second inning with a single and then moved to third on a pair of groundouts. With two outs and two strikes on Eliezer Zambrano, Asheville starter Chris Balcom-Miller's wild pitch scored Anders from third to put the GreenJackets on the board.

Asheville struck back with a pair of doubles in the fifth. Avery Barnes' one-out double scored Dallas Tarleton to tie the game at one.

Both pitchers delivered superb efforts in the tight ballgame. Chris Heston got the no decision after firing eight innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out six. Chris Balcom-Miller (3-6) gave up a run on two hits without walking anyone. He struck out six in his second straight win and has now given up just four hits in his last two starts - a span covering 15 innings.

All-Star Sheng-An Kuo survived the leadoff single in the ninth to pick up his 17th save of the season.

The GreenJackets have dropped three of five in their current homestand and will look to Craig Clark (2-2, 4.64) in the second game of the series on Saturday night. He'll face lefty Tyler Matzek (4-1, 2.93), the first round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies in the 2009 draft. First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
