
Power Remain Cold, Lose Seventh Straight

The West Virginia Power drop their seventh consecutive game as they lose 6-2 to the Hickory Crawdads. The Crawdads pick up six runs over the second and the fourth innings to pick up their third win in the first three games of the series.
The Power started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Andy Vasquez reached base on a error and Justin Howard got aboard with a walk. Cole White drove a line drive out to right field that scored Vasquez from second and then Howard came across to give the Power a 2-0 lead after an error by the catcher, Tomas Telis.
Hickory responded in the top of the second inning with four runs. Andrew Clark led off with a walk and was followed by a single by Josh Richmond. A ground rule double by Jake Skole scored Clarkand Richmond would cross the plate on a sacrifice fly by Yefrey Castillo. An infield single and two errors scored Skole and Odubel Herrera to put Hickory ahead 4-2.
The Crawdads added two runs in the top of the fourth with back to back home runs by Christian Villanueva and Jake Skole to lead off the inning. The long balls would put Hickory ahead 6-2, which remained until the game's close.
Zack Von Rosenberg (3-7) was given the loss after giving up six runs on seven hits in his four innings.
Matt Buckel (4-3) had a strong outing for the Crawdads throwing five innings giving up two unearned runs on one hit, while striking out four Power batters.
Eliecer Navarro pitched impressive relief for West Virginia. After taking over for Von Rosenberg in the fifth, Navarro threw five innings only allowing one hit, giving up no runs, and striking out four Hickory hitters.
The Power and the Crawdads will close the series Friday evening with a scheduled 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Hickory will send Nick Tepesch to the mound against Jameson Taillon for the Power.
