Hagerstown Suns News Release
Augusta, GA- Tonight's scheduled doubleheader of two seven-inning standoffs between the Hagerstown Suns and Augusta Greenjackets will be completed on Friday, July 15th due to heavy rainfall during the 3rd inning of series game two. The first game on Friday will begin with a 6:00pm first pitch which will serve to complete tonight's suspended game with the series game three postponed until after game one tomorrow is finished. Friday's backend game on getaway night will be seven innings. The second rain delay this evening began at 7:19pm, after a thirty minute delay during warmups.
The Suns and Greenjackets were postponed last night following a torrential downpour that included lofty thunderstorms, and tonight the front end of the twin bill was suspended in the top of the 3rd inning with the Suns batting, two outs, a runner on third base, and a two-ball, two-strike count on 3B Sean Nicol. Hagerstown is trailing Augusta 1-0 in the ballgame which will be picked up right where it was left tomorrow night. 1B Mills Rogers, who singled to right center field and advanced to third base on a two-bag throwing error by LHP Mike Kickham, is ninety feet away representing the tying run.
Augusta scored the game's only run on an RBI double by C Joel Weeks into the left center field gap to score the single of 1B Ryan Scoma, who swiped second base to get into scoring position.
RHP A.J. Cole, who is the losing pitcher of record as the suspended game stands, garnered five strikeouts, including fanning the side in the 2nd inning, but he has surrendered three hits, including a pair of doubles. 3B Adam Duvall lashed a two-base knock down the left field line in the 1st frame but was left stranded.
The scheduled start for the first doubleheader contest this evening was delayed due to pre-game rainfall, pushing first pitch from 6:05pm to 6:35pm. Water from above has now postponed game two scheduled for Wednesday night, delayed the pickup of that game tonight by thirty minutes, and then suspended that same game until Friday night after a one hour, forty-two minute rain delay.
Wall-to-wall radio broadcast coverage for the doubleheader tomorrow will begin with a 5:45pm Break Away 2 Sports Lounge Pre-game Show on WJEJ AM 1240. The pitching matchup for both games is to be determined.
