Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

GREENVILLE, SC - Lakewood faced a very tough pitcher on Thursday night as they fell 5-1 to the Greenville Drive for the second straight night. The BlueClaws were held to just 4 hits and 1 run in a wacky game. For Lakewood, Manager Chris Truby, Hitting Coach Greg Legg, and 3B Travis Mattair were all 3 ejected for arguing calls in the 8th inning. It was a close game all the way through until Greenville blew it open with a 4 run 8th inning to take a 2 games to 1 lead in the 4 game series.

David Buchanan was going for his league leading 10th win of the season for Lakewood, but he came up just short. The righty from Georgia finished allowing 5 hits and just 1 run over 5 2/3rd innings and got a no decision. Greenville starter Keith Couch didn't factor in the decision either, but he was fantastic allowing just 3 hits and a run over 7 strong innings. With the game tied 1-1, Greenville broke through against the Lakewood bullpen with 4 runs on 3 walks and 3 hits. Lakewood got the tying run in the on-deck circle in the 9th, but Jeff Lanning struck out looking to end the ballgame.

The Blueclaws were held to just 4 hits in the game as for the 3rd straight Lakewood was out hit by Greenville, this time 8-4. Travis Mattair was 2-3 before he got ejected, and he was the only BlueClaw with more than 1 hit in the game. Edgar Duran and Jim Murphy were the only other BlueClaws to collect a hit. Lakewood actually led the game 1-0 with a run in the top of the 6th, but the lead was short lived as Greenville tied it at 1 run a piece in the bottom of the 6th.

Friday will be the 4th and final game of the series with Lakewood trying to salvage a split in the series. The BlueClaws will send out red hot LHP Jesse Biddle (4-6, 3.35 ERA) and Greenville will counter with RHP Scott Swinson (2-2, 2.72 ERA). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Friday.
