Charleston, WV (July 14, 2011) - The West Virginia Power will host the second annual Coal Miner Appreciation Day this Saturday, July 16th in conjunction with their home game against the Charleston, SC RiverDogs. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 PM and gates will open at 6:00 PM.

Coal Miner Appreciation Day will feature free admission for all current and former miners and their immediate families. Admission will also include access to a pre-game all-you-can-eat picnic buffet. Miners are required to provide proof of current or previous employment. Employee ID, pay stub, association card, stripes, etc. will be accepted.

Additionally, the first 500 fans through the gate will receive a free Coal Miner Appreciation Day T-shirt. The T-shirt giveaway and Coal Miner Appreciation Day is presented by Alpha Natural Resources, FACES of Coal, Friends of Coal, Liberty Hydro, Lincoln Primary Care Center, Inc. of Southern West Virginia Health System, and Newtown Energy.

West Virginia Power players will also wear special coal miner jerseys on Saturday. A select few of these game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off along with other autographed memorabilia to benefit the families of fallen miners. Although the fundraiser benefits those affected by the lives lost in mines, Saturday will primarily serve as a celebration of the hard work and dedication put forth on a daily basis by all coal miners.

"We will always remember those lost in the mines, but our goal with this day is to celebrate the mining industry and the thousands of miners who work hard every day to provide a resource that powers not only West Virginia but the nation," stated Palisades Baseball Executive Vice President Andy Milovich.
