Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

On Monday night, the West Virginia Power fell 10-7 to the Delmarva Shorebirds at Appalachian Power Park. The Power rallied from a 7-1 deficit to tie the game in the fifth inning, but surrendered three in the seventh and could not rally again in their second straight loss to the Shorebirds.

Delmarva jumped to an early lead against Zack Von Rosenberg, plating three in the first on a run-scoring single from Manny Machado and a home run by Michael Flacco. The Shorebirds would add two more in the fourth on a home run by Brenden Webb. West Virginia tallied its first run in the home half of the inning, but Delmarva added two more in the fifth for a 7-1 edge.

In the bottom of the fifth, The Power sent 12 men to the plate and half of them scored. West Virginia only managed three hits in the inning, but benefited from four walks, a hit batter, and an error to even the score at seven. Shorebirds starter Luis Noel was charged with all seven Power runs and survive the fifth. Ryan Palsha entered with one out and allowed two inherited runners to score before the inning ended.

Delmarva sent eight batters to the plate in the seventh against Power reliever Zac Fuesser, scoring three runs on three hits to regain the lead for good.

West Virginia loaded the bases in the ninth, but could not manage to bring the any other runs home. The Power stranded ten runners on base despite going 4-10 with runners in scoring position.

Fuesser (1-2) took the loss, while Palsha (2-1) earned the win. D.J. Ferguson pitched the ninth for his first Delmarva save. The Shorebirds racked up 15 hits and turned four double plays in the win over the Power, which committed four errors in defeat.

West Virginia and Delmarva close out this series on Tuesday evening at 7:05 pm. Tyler Waldron and Jarret Martin will start for the Power and Shorebirds, respectively, at Appalachian Power Park.

POWER RECORD: 27-29
