POWER REPLAY: West Virginia dropped the series opener to the Delmarva Shorebirds on Sunday, falling 5-3. Each team scored twice in the fourth inning, but Delmarva capitalized in the sixth, plating three runs, including back-to-back home runs off Colton Cain. Elias Diaz had three of West Virginia's four hits in the loss.
BRING ON THE BIRDS: West Virginia trails the all-time set 42-38, and have gone 26-19 at home against Delmarva since 2005. The Power took 10 of 18 last season, including nine of 13 at Appalachian Power Park. West Virginia and Delmarva will meet five more times this season after this series; the final five days of the regular slate in Septmenber. West Virginia won three out of four games at Delmarva a week and a half ago.
STREAKING STAR STOPPED: Drew Maggi's hitting streak was halted at nine games yesterday. Maggi had 12 hits over 37 at bats during the streak and matched Matt Curry for the longest streak by a Power player this season. Curry hit .484 during his streak, which ended right before his promotion to Altoona, while Maggi is batted .324 over his nine games run.
BACK FOR MORE: Rogelio Noris hit 15 home runs for West Virginia during the 2010 season and has added four to that total so far this season. Stephen Chapman holds the single-season record with 24, which is also the most by any player during his respective stint with West Virginia. Noris is tied for fourth all-time in Power history with 19 career home runs, matching Sefan Wilson and trailing only Chapman, Kenny Holmberg (22), and Kyle Morgan (20).
WHITE TO THEDL: The Pittsburgh Pirates placed Cole White on the disabled list on Friday, retroactive to June 1. White appeared in one game for the Power on May 31, going 1-2 before leaving with an injury sustained while running out a single. To replace White on the active roster, Pittsburgh promoted Chase Lyles from Extended Spring. Lyles was selected in the 32nd round of the 2010 draft from Northwestern State (LA) University, and played in 55 games for State College last season.
FSL ALL-STARS: Five former Power players were named to the 2011 Florida State League South Divison All-Star squad on Thursday. Kyle McPherson, Brett Lorin, Ramon Cabrera, Jarek Cunningham, and Aaron Baker will represent the Bradenton Marauders in the mid-season classic, to be played one June 18 at Clearwater. Cabrera and Baker were also named All-Stars in 2010 while playing for West Virginia. The 2011 South Atlantic League All-Star teams will be announced on Tuesday.
PINPOINT CONTROL: West Virginia pitchers have combined to walk just 113 batters this season, the fewest in the SAL. Power pitchers have also walked the fewest batters in all of professional baseball.
POWER POINTS: The Power will make up the May 3 rainout against Greensboro on June 14 at 5:30 pm as part of a doubleheader... Last Tuesday's game was played in front of 5,570 fans, the largest crowd of the season at Appalachian Power Park... Victor Black has not allowed a base hit in any of his first four appearances so far this season, and has only allowed on base runner over six innings of work... Andy Vasquez went hitless Saturday and had his second six-game hitting streak of the season stopped.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh lost 7-3 to Philadelphia...Indianapolis beat Syracuse 7-2... Altoona dropped a 12-4 final to Portland... Bradenton lost 6-1 at Charlotte.
