Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 6, 2011) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators dropped a one-run game at home for only the second time this season, falling to the Rome Braves, 2-1, on Monday at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The Intimidators squandered a quality start from RHP Matt Heidenreich (4-4), who took the loss for Kannapolis in 7.0 innings of work, allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

Kannapolis struck first in the bottom of the second when Rome's Caleb Brewer walked Dan Black to lead off the inning. Juan Silverio followed with a double down the third base line to score Black from first for an early Intimidators lead.

Rome quickly answered with two runs in the top of the third. Kyle Davis doubled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on Hilton Richardson's bunt-single. David Rohm cashed Davis with a sacrifice fly, and two batters later Chris Garcia singled home Richardson giving the Braves a 2-1 advantage.

Brewer (4-2) picked up the win, combining with relievers Danilo Alvarez, Thomas Berryhill and closer Kyle Mertins to hold the Intimidators scoreless through the final seven innings.

The Intimidators and Braves wrap up their three-game series on Tuesday as LHP Spencer Arroyo takes the mound against Rome's RHP Ryan Weber. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

GAME NOTES: The Intimidators lost their first day game of the season (Kannapolis is now 7-1 in day games) ... Kannapolis turned two double- plays ... Despite the loss, Heidenreich tossed his sixth quality start of the season ... The attendance of 5,303 is a season-high for the Intimidators.
