Charleston RiverDogs News Release

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Ehire Adrianza tagged an eighth inning RBI single to tie the game, and a corresponding error pushed the GreenJackets in front, as Augusta rallied to defeat the Charleston RiverDogs, 2-1, in South Atlantic League action Monday night in front of 1,284 fans at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

Augusta improved to 5-1 versus Charleston and 25-33 overall with the victory, while the RiverDogs dropped their third straight to regress to 23-35.

RiverDogs' starter Jose A. Ramirez and reliever Nathan Forer (1-4) had held the GreenJackets to just one hit through seven frames, but Augusta pushed two runs across on three base knocks and the crucial error to break through in the eighth.

Joel Weeks and Chris Lofton grounded back-to-back one-out singles to put the tying and go-ahead runs on base against Forer. Forer got Carlos Willoughby to ground into a fielder's choice, but could not secure the elusive third out of the inning with the lead intact.

Adrianza lined a run-scoring single to center field, which got by Eduardo Sosa, allowing the speedy Willoughby to race plateward all the way from first base.

The late surge made a winner of Seth Rosin (2-2), who authored 2.0 scoreless innings of relief while walking one and striking out two. Drew Bowlin nailed down his third save and assured Augusta of a series victory with a 1-2-3 ninth inning versus the heart of the Charleston order.

Sosa accounted for the RiverDogs only tally with a two-out second inning RBI single to drive home Kyle Roller, who had doubled leading off the frame.

Both starters were excellent, as Ramirez continued his strong work since returning to Charleston from High-A Tampa, and Justin Schumer turned in his best showing of the campaign.

Ramirez breezed through 6.0 innings, allowing only the one hit and two walks, managing to fan four in the process.

Schumer was terrific after yielding the one run in the second, lasting 6.0 innings and scattering four hits and two walks, while striking out a pair.

The RiverDogs look to salvage the finale of the three-game series and avoid a second consecutive road sweep as they square off against the GreenJackets on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Mikey O'Brien (3-4, 3.79 ERA) is slated to toe the slab for Charleston, versus fellow righty Taylor Rogers (4-6, 2.67 ERA) of Augusta.
