
Lakewood Drops 5th Straight, Falls 8-5 Monday

HICKORY, NC - The Lakewood BlueClaws lost their 5th consecutive ballgame on Monday as the Hickory Crawdads jumped on Lakewood early en route to the victory. Lakewood battled back to get with 2 at 7-5, but just couldn't get over the hump. The loss drops Lakewood to below .500 at 28 and 29 on the year.
It has been a forgettable Road Trip so far for the BlueClaws as they fall to 1-5 on their current 7 game road trip. BlueClaws SP Mario Hollands didn't make it out the 3rd inning as he allowed 7 runs on 10 hits, 2 walks, and 1 hit batter in 2 2/3rds innings while picking up the loss to fall to 4-4 on the year. The bullpen pitched well for Lakewood to keep them in the game, combining to pitch 5 1/3rd innings and allowing only 1 run on 5 hits and 1 walk.
Hickory SP Cody Buckel got the win tossing 5 innings, allowing 9 hits and 2 runs while striking out 7 and walking nobody. RP Ryan Rodebaugh came on at got the final 11 outs for Hickory and collecting his 7th save of the season allowing just 1 hit over 3 2/3rds innings.
Miguel Alvarez was the story of the day for Lakewood as he went 4-5 at the plate and scored a run. He has boosted his average all the way up to .318 on the year, tops among BlueClaws players. Jim Murphy also collected a hit finishing 1-3 with an RBI double and a walk. The double for Murphy extended his hitting streak to 15 games. Domingo Santana chipped in with 3 base hits in the ballgame as well for Lakewood.
Tuesday will be the series finale between the 2 clubs, and the final game of the 7 game Road Trip for the BlueClaws. RHP David Buchanan will try for his league leading 8th win of the season for Lakewood, and RHP Nicholas Tepesch (1-3, 4.12 ERA) will throw for Hickory. First Pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am on Tuesday.
