Omaha Lancers News Release

Madison, WI - The Omaha Lancers scored two power play goals in the first period and goaltender Kris Oldham made 33 saves on route to a 3-2 victory over the Madison Capitols inside the Alliant Energy Center on Friday night.

Nick Rivera got the visiting Lancers on the board quickly in the first period while on the man advantage. After a hard working offensive shift, Omaha drew a penalty as Carver Watson went to the penalty box for Madison. Rivera took the puck on the goal line to the left of Capitols' goaltender Garrett Metcalf and sent it into the crease. The shot went off a skate and through the legs of Metcalf for a 1-0 lead at 2:00 of the opening period. The goal was Rivera's third of the year, assisted by Jacob Bryson and Brian Williams.

In the second period Omaha scored their second power play goal of the night to take a two-goal lead. Jacob Bryson sent a saucer pass to the top of the right wing circle to an awaiting Josh French. After receiving the pass, French fired a slap shot that went through traffic and beat Garret Metcalf for the 2-0 lead at 3:19 of the middle period. With the goal, French recorded his third of the year.

With just over five minutes left in the period Charlie Gerard got the Capitols on the scoreboard with a rebound goal for his fourth on the year. Kris Oldham made the original save, but Gerard scooped up the loose puck, went to Oldham's left, and slid the puck inside the post to split Omaha's lead in half, 2-1.

Quickly after giving up the goal, Ben DiMaio and JC MacLean teamed up to get the Lancers their two-goal advantage back in the second. DiMaio lifted the puck over a stick right to MacLean who ripped it over the left shoulder of Garrett Metcalf for his first career USHL goal to give the Lancers a 3-1 lead with just 4:59 left in the middle frame. On the pass to MacLean, Ben DiMaio recorded his first point of the year on the eventual game-winning goal.

Early on in the third period the Capitols once again pulled within a single goal of tying the game. Omaha turned over the puck inside the right wing circle as Charlie Parker took it for Madison. Parker immediately fired a low shot on net that beat Kris Oldham decreasing the Lancers' lead to 3-2 just 2:50 into the final period. The goal was unassisted and Parker's first of the year.

In the end, Oldham and the Lancers held on for the 3-2 win. It was Oldham's fourth victory as he stopped 30 of the 32 shots.
