Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

The Des Moines Buccaneers, with their backs against the wall yet again, found a way to erase a two goal deficit and defeat Eastern Conference leading Dubuque Friday night 4-2.

Mitchell Smith and Nathan Sucese scored just over 5 minutes apart to give the visiting team a 2-0 lead early in the first period. Patrick Grasso scored his team-leading seventh goal on the MidAmerican power play 17:54 into the first to skate off to the locker room at the first intermission down 2-1.

Wyatt Bongiovanni got the scoring started early in the second period for the Bucs as he crept down and buried a sharp angle shot just 3:44 into the second frame to tie the game at two apiece. Jan Ruzicka played a sharp game and made 12 saves in the period, leading to the decisive third period.

Halfway through the period neither team had scored but Nikita Pavlychev's strong play against the boards forced an errant pass onto the stick of Zach Jordan and Jordan sniped it high blocker-side over Jaxon Castor for the Buccaneers first lead of the game at 11:03 of the third period. Georgy Gorodetsky capped off the night with another MidAmerican Energy power play goal at 16:17 beating Castor upstairs glove side for the 4-2 win.

Jan Ruzicka picked up the win making 38 saves on 40 shots on goal and the Buccaneers improved to 5-5-1. They face Cedar Rapids on the road next with a puck drop at 7:00 pm on Saturday, October 31st, and the game can be heard on 1700 KBGG.
