
Power outlast the Suns

Hagerstown, MD (July 17, 2005) - In a ballgame that took 14 innings to complete, and lasted almost five hours, the West Virginia Power beat the Hagerstown Suns by the final score of 8-5. The win marks the fourth in a row for the Power who went 5-1 on their road trip and are now over .500 for the first time all season.
Hernan Iribarren hit a solo shot, his third homerun of the season to give the Power a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Adam Mannon hit a fly ball to center field in the second inning, which was dropped by Carlos Gomez, allowing Will Lewis to score. Later in the inning Alcides Escobar drove in Josh Murray on a Sac Fly RBI to make it 3-0 Power. In the bottom of the third inning Corey Coles scored on an errant throw from Carlos Corporan and Mike Carp tied the game later in the inning with a two run homerun. The Power took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning when Ryan Braun scored on a wild pitch but the Suns tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI single from Grant Psomas. Adam Mannon provided the Power with their third lead of the game when he hit a solo shot, his third of the season in the top of the eighth inning to make it a 5-4 Power lead. In the bottom of the eighth inning Derran Watts scored on a Corey Coles RBI groundout. It remained a 5-5 game until Alcides Escobar hit an RBI single in the top of the fourteenth inning. Ryan Braun added to the lead two batters later with a two run single to give the Power an 8-5 advantage.
Justin Barnes (6-1) pitched seven solid innings out of the bullpen to earn the victory, and Jose Gomez (1-2) obtained the loss. The Power are 12-11 in the second half after the win and the Suns move to 8-15 with the loss.
The Power will continue the four game series with the Hagerstown Suns at Appalachian Power Park on Monday night. The Power will throw left-handed pitcher Greg Kloosterman (3-12, 4.52) and the Suns will counter with right-handed pitcher Mike Devaney (5-1, 3.66). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
