Hagerstown Suns News Release
It was a game that neither team wanted to lose, but after allowing three runs in top of the 14th and not earning a single hit of their own in the bottom of that frame, it was the Suns who succumbed to the Power 8-5.
The game lasted nearly 5 hours and included a total of 19 walks, 21 strikeouts, 6 wild pitches, 3 balks, 5 batters hit by a pitch. In all, 125 batters came to the plate in the contest.
The game was tied at 5 after the 8th inning and the Suns had their chances to win it with runners in scoring position in the 9th and 12 innings, but couldn't get the clutch hit they needed.
The Power ran themselves out of a bases loaded situation in the 11th and squandered another opportunity in the 13th before finally breaking through in the last inning.
After issuing a walk to Josh Murray, reliever Jose Gomez balked twice to advance him to third. Gomez then dealt another walk to put runners on the corner with just one out.
Marcelo Perez then came into the game and the first batter he faced, Alcides Escobar, roped a single down the left field line to score the game winning run. Ryan Braun would follow with a 2-RBI single to put the Power up by 3 runs.
West Virginia's Justin Barnes pitched 7 innings of relief, allowing just 1 run and earning his 6th win of the year.
The Suns are on the road tomorrow to face the same West Virginia team and will return home on Saturday to play the Lake County Captains.
The game features the third Suns 25th anniversary cap giveaway of the season, sponsored by First Data. Stop by or call the Suns' offices at 301-791-6266 for tickets.
