SAVANNAH, Ga. - A three-run homer off the bat of Augusta catcher Steve Holm in the top of the fifth was all the GreenJackets needed to defeat Savannah 5-2 Sunday at Historic Grayson Stadium.

Until the fifth, Gnats starter Jim Henderson had largely shut down the Augusta offense, scattering three hits through the first four innings and not allowing a base runner past second base. In the fifth, Henderson walked Jackets third baseman Simon Klink and gave up a dying quail base hit to designated hitter Carlos Sosa to set the table for Holm`s heroics.

The Gnats had scratched out an early 2-0 lead with a single run in the first and second. Rogearvin Bernadina singled in the first, stole second and scored on an Edgardo Baez base knock. Gnats backstop Devin Ivany led off the second with a towering homer into the left field bleachers, his ninth of the season and third off Augusta pitching in 2005.

The GreenJackets added a run in both the eighth and ninth innings of Gnats reliever Ben Cox including a Jon Armitage ninth-inning, solo homer.

Savannah and Augusta meet for the second game of the series at Historic Grayson Stadium Monday at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.sandgnats.com, or by calling the Gnats box office at 912-351-9150.
