Braves split Double Header

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves and Kannapolis Intimidators squared off Saturday night at State Mutual Stadium. Game one was the resumption of a suspended game Friday night and game two was a seven-inning affair.

The suspended game began in the bottom of the second inning with Kannapolis up 2-0 and as it turned out that is all the runs they would need. The Intimidators added two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to increase their lead to 5-0. The Braves would score one run in the bottom of the seventh but that's as close as Rome would get. Final score Kannapolis 7 Rome 1. Michael Moat received the win for the Intimidators (6-1), John Hurd got the save (4) and the losing pitcher was Luis Atilano (7-5).

The second game would prove not to be so one-sided. The scoring for the Braves would begin in the bottom of the first with a Young walk. He would advance to third on an Escobar single and score on a Brandon Jones double play ball, giving the Braves the lead, 1-0. Rome scored a run in the bottom of the first with Kannapolis taking the lead in the second with two runs. Rome bounced back in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 2-2. After the Braves took the lead in the bottom of the third 3-2, the Intimidators would come back and score five runs in the fifth to lead the game, 7-3.

The Braves scored three runs in the sixth to pull to within one run 7-6. In an exciting seventh, the Braves would finish their comeback by scoring two runs, coming back in dramatic fashion to win the game 8-7. Singles by Matt Young and Yunel Escobar started the inning. Brandon Jones was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. With nobody out and the bases full Van Pope reached on a fielders choice to score Young to tie the game. Ivan Terrazas then delivered the game-winning hit to right centerfield to score Escobar to give Rome the victory 8-7. The winning pitcher Arthur Santos (2-1) and the loser was Matt Zaleski (2-4).

Roster Moves - Rome announced that right-handed pitcher Seth Bobbit has been sent to Myrtle Beach of the Carolina League while Rome receives Bryan Digby from the Pelicans. Digby, a right-hander, was 1-4 in 25 appearance at Myrtle Beach.
