Lake County Captains News Release

(Salisbury, MD)-Casey Cahill came in to record a key strikeout for the second straight night, and went on to post his fourth save Sunday, as the Delmarva Shorebirds defeated the Lake County Captains 5-4 at Perdue Stadium.

Cahill, a 10th round pick in 2002, entered the game in the eighth with the Shorebirds leading 5-4. The Captains had runners at second and third with two outs. Cahill, who struck out Brian Finegan in the ninth to save Saturday's game, then fanned Chris Clem to end the inning. Cahill went on to pitch the ninth, working around a lead-off hit by Trevor Crowe, to post his fourth save of the season. All his saves have come against the Captains.

The Captains (11-12, 50-43) have lost six of the last seven games. Sunday's loss dropped the Captains to seven games behind the first-place Shorebirds (17-6, 47-46). Delmarva has won four straight games.

The Shorebirds rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the third when they sent nine men to the plate and took a 3-0 lead against Captains starter Dan Cevette (2-3). Cevette hit three batters and walked two in the inning and left with two outs and the bases loaded. Adrian Schau came on to record the final out of the inning.

Arturo Rivas drove in runs in the fifth and seventh to keep ahead of the Captains, who pulled to within 4-3 with two runs in the sixth on an RBI double by Josh Noviskey and a sacrifice fly by Ricardo Rojas. The Captains made it 5-4 in the eighth on a double by Pacheco before Cahill came on and squashed the comeback attempt.

Dennis Robinson (4-8) picked up the win, going five innings and scattering seven hits and holding the Captains to three runs.

The Captains and Shorebirds will play game three of the series on Monday night at 7:00 (WELW AM 1330).
