Carmona promoted to Cleveland

Eastlake, OH)--The Cleveland Indians announced Sunday that righthander Fausto Carmona has been promoted to Cleveland from triple-A Buffalo. The move makes Carmona the first former Captains player to make it to the major leagues.

Carmona, 21, was 17-4, with a league-best 2.06 ERA for the Captains in 2003, and was named the SAL's Most Outstanding Pitcher. He was also named the Tribe's Minor League Pitcher of the Year.

Carmona started this year at AA Akron and went 6-5 with a 4.07 ERA in 14 starts (90.2IP, 100H, 41ER, 20BB, 57K) before being promoted to Buffalo on June 24. At Buffalo he has gone 2-0 w ith a 2.57 ERA in three starts (21.0IP, 19H, 6R/ER, 2BB, 13K). He has limited International League hitters to a .235average.
