Power Outage: Wildcatters top Lynx 3-1 on Tuesday
March 4, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
The Texas Wildcatters got their only win so far this season against the Augusta Lynx with a workmanlike 3-1 victory on Tuesday at the James Brown Arena. The Lynx were plagued again back a lack of scoring and now have only found the back of the net four times during their four-game losing streak.
The Wildcatters began the scoring midway through the 1st period as Marc Fulton puck up a loose puck in front after a shot from the point from A.J. Thelen and slipped one underneath #1 Gerald Coleman for a 1-0 lead. The Wildcatters made it 2-0, again on the power play, with the eventual game-winning goal from Thelen, who one-timed a slapshot from 55 feet past an outstretched Coleman with assists to Dan Welch and Fulton.
The Lynx got on the board for the first time in five periods with a power play goal from #20 Matt Auffrey, his 21st of the season. Auffrey received a pass from #9 Louis Goulet and one-timed a shot from th slot that hit #21 Bobby Bolt, rebounded back to Auffrey who was able to slip it past Wildcatters goaltender Kris Tebbs.
That is all Tebbs and Texas would allow the rest of the night, as the Lynx power play went powerless the rest of the night. Any chance of a comeback in the 3rd period was squashed by the 3rd and final goal off the stick of Texas forward Max Taylor, who picked up a rebound shot from the point to send it past a sprawled Coleman.
The Lynx held the Wildcatters to 20 shots on goal the entire night and just two in the 3rd period, but could not manage more than Auffrey's goal. The Lynx record falls to .500 for the first time since November 17th.
On a side note, the new concessionaire of the James Brown Arena, Ovation, received great reviews from the Lynx staff and fans during the entire evening during their first night as vendor for food and beverage during Lynx games. Ovation, who was hired as the new concessionaire this past Saturday, is scheduled to be serving in the arena the remainder of the hockey season.
