Dayton Bombers News Release

North Charleston, SC- As Dayton (26-20-5-5) reached the warm weather of the Carolinas, the play for the Bombers heated up inside the North Charleston Coliseum as they faced off against the South Carolina Stingrays (36-21-2-1), currently in second place in the South Division. The game started off fast, with Masahito Nishiwaki unfortunately taking a puck to the face in the first few minutes, sending him to the locker room early. But the Bombers didn't let that affect them, getting on the scoreboard first as Ryan MacGregor came off a breakaway to earn his 3rd goal of the season at the 10:46 mark. Dayton didn't wait long to strike again, as less than 30 seconds later Scott Kelman notched his 8th goal of the season coming off great passes from Chris Eade and Greg Labenski.

Goaltending remained solid for the Dayton Bombers as Rejean Beauchemin faced 14 shots in the period, keeping them all out of the net. Prior to tonight, Rejean in his last five games had 1.58 goals against average with a .956 save percentage.

In a second period that racked up a total of eight penalties (4 for each team), the Stingrays cut into Dayton's lead with a power play goal, as South Carolina's Marty Guerin scored his 15th of the season at 2:01 into the period. Dayton managed 11 shots on goal while the Bombers' Beauchemin stayed strong, stopping 15 out of the 16 shots he faced. Dayton headed into the locker room looking to hold on to their 2-1 lead.

Coming into the 3rd period Dayton had been outshot 30-21, but that all changed as the Bombers launched 13 shots on the Stingrays goalie. Scott Kelman got his second goal of the game as he picked up a rebound to put the puck in the net at the 12:33 mark, giving Kelman his 9th goal of the season, this one unassisted. That was more than enough for Bombers keeper Rejean Beauchemin, as he kept the six shots he faced in the period out of the net, giving him a whopping 35 saves for the night.

The Bombers continue their Carolina swing, as they travel north to Charlotte for a 7:05 face-off Thursday night against the Checkers.

The Bombers return to action at the Nutter Center on Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 15, against the Trenton Devils, and Sunday, March 16, against the Cincinnati Cyclones for a three-day St. Patrick's Day weekend!
