POWER REPLAY: West Virginia beat Lakewood 4-1 on Sunday. The Power trailed 1-0 after one inning of play, but plated a run in the fourth, a run in the six, and two more in the ninth for the victory. Joan Montero earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief behind starter Nick Kingham and Nathan Kilcrease notched his seventh save. Francisco Diaz had three hits and two runs batted in to key the offense.
WINNING WARRIORS: Friday night's victory at Lakewood guaranteed that West Virginia would have a winning record on a road trip for just the second time all season. The Power finished their seven game swing with a 5-2 record. West Virginia's only other winning trip this season was its most recent: a 5-3 mark during an eight-game jaunt through Georgia from July 10-17. The Power won a league-low seven road games in the first half of the season and have a league-best 14 road wins in the second half so far with 11 road contests left.
SUNS SHOWDOWN: West Virginia welcomes Hagerstown to Appalachian Power Park for the final series between the team this season. The Suns have a one game lead in the division over the Power and Hickory Crawdads heading into play tonight. West Virginia trails in the all-time series 55-50, but are 25-19 against the Suns at Appalachian Power Park since the start of the 2005 campaign and 2-2 at home this season.
STREAKING TO THE PLATE: Francisco Diaz has a six-game hitting streak intact heading into his next game, while Jose Osuna has hit safety in eight straight. Eric Avila extended his hitting streak to ten straight with a single in four at bats on Saturday.
TRIPLE THE FUN: Alen Hanson tripled twice during the series at Lakewood to raise his league-best total to 11. In 2011, Andy Vasquez set a new Charleston SAL single season record with 13 three base hits in 113 games played. Hanson has played 100 games this season and currently sits in second place all-time after breaking a tie with Quincy Latimore's 2009 total of 10 triples.
MORE WINNING WAYS: The Power are now 15-12 this month with two games left in July. The club had not had an even or winning record in any month so far this season until now.
SEE YOU SOON: West Virginia's win on Sunday secured the season series with Lakewood. The Power are 10-5 against the BlueClaws this season with four games left. Lakewood will travel to Charleston later this week for the final series this season between the teams.
PROMO CHECK- AUGUST 2 & 3: The Power will hold two BIG 12 promotional night's during the next homestand. August 2 is NFL Night featuring an appearance by the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, while August 3 is WVU night featuring appearances by West Virginia University legends including Pat White.
POWER POINTS: Elias Diaz went hitless in four at bats on Saturday and saw his career-best nine game hitting streak snapped... Jose Osuna hit home runs in three straight games to close out the Greensboro series and now has eight long balls this month. The infielder has matched Mat Gamel (May 2006), Stephen Chapman (July 2007), and Matt LaPorta (August 2007) for the club record of home runs in a single month... Gregory Polanco has 40 stolen bases this season and now sits third all-time in the Charleston SAL record book. Polanco is two behind Brent Brewer's 2007 total of 42.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh lost 9-5 on Sunday at Houston... Indianapolis dropped a 3-2 final to Buffalo... Altoona outlasted New Hampshire 3-2 in 10 innings. Adalberto Santos drove in the winning run... Bradenton lost 12-7 to Daytona. Matt Benedict took the loss and fell to 0-6 with theMarauders... State College was shutout twice in a doubleheader, falling 1-0 and 2-0 at Lowell.
